Workshops from the Artist

H. Gene Thompson has a strong foundation as a sculptor, performer, printmaker, and an artist educator. Independently, along with many different public and private institutions they have led workshops and programs focusing on social emotional learning by way of teaching multimedia skills to youth in the neighborhoods of many different cities in order to help to create connections within and across communities.

Sculptural Performance
July 22 – 26, 10am-2pm, Ages 13-18

Students will connect to their environments and build a world of their own—is it the subconscious, a moon of Jupiter, or another landscape completely? Using sculpture, mixed media installation, and fabric to “paint space,” we will build landscapes and objects that tap into our authentic selves and will be manipulated and transformed with movement and performance. Art Camp: Fiber Arts and Puppet Making
July 29 – Aug 1, 2-4pm, Ages 8-12

Students will build a deeper understanding of relating to puppets—as an artist, as a creator, and as a puppeteer. We will collaborate to develop characters who will interact in our performance space and with other sculptural elements. Sign up!
